Add a transparent sponsored step without turning every redirect into tracking

Show a first-party contextual message on selected custom-domain links, and load Meta or AdRoll tags only after an explicit visitor choice.

What you can do

Each capability below is available in the current GoTo.now application.

Custom-domain boundary

Advertising controls are unavailable on shared goto.now links. A verified branded domain keeps the publisher and consent context clear.

Contextual sponsored message

Use validated plain text and a click destination. No arbitrary HTML, remote creative, or third-party script is accepted as ad content.

Explicit visitor choice

The consent screen loads no marketing provider. Meta Pixel or AdRoll can load only after the visitor chooses Allow and continue.

Domain and link switches

Configure permitted behavior once per domain, then opt in individual smart links. Turning off either switch restores the ordinary redirect.

No-referrer intermediary

Consent and sponsored pages suppress referrer data, identify the destination host, and offer a direct continue link.

Aggregate ad reporting

The dashboard counts daily sponsored impressions and ad clicks. It does not expose raw visitor IP addresses or an identity-level clickstream.

A sponsor message without forcing marketing consent

A publisher enables a plain-text sponsor message on one branded campaign link. Visitors can see that contextual message without an ad-network tag. If Meta or AdRoll retargeting is also configured, first-time visitors receive a separate choice that names the providers and links to the publisher's privacy notice.

What this changes: Declining still reaches the destination with no provider tag; accepting stores a versioned choice and permits only the validated integrations configured for that domain.

Is this the right tool?

Use it when

  • A custom-domain campaign has a relevant sponsor
  • Retargeting has a documented purpose and public privacy notice
  • The destination must remain visible and reachable after decline

Choose another approach when

  • You want to inject arbitrary ad-network JavaScript
  • You want to hide or frame the final destination
  • You cannot offer an equally functional decline path

How it works

1

Configure the custom domain

Add sponsored copy and/or validated Meta and AdRoll IDs, plus the link owner's public privacy notice.

2

Choose eligible links

Enable smart routing on a custom-domain link, then opt that link into the contextual ad, retargeting, or both.

3

Respect the decision

New visitors can continue without marketing. A versioned, host-only consent cookie remembers the decision for six months and is invalidated when provider configuration changes.

Configure advertising

Behavior worth knowing

  • Contextual ads do not need marketing consent because they load no ad-network tag; local law and the publisher's own obligations still apply.
  • Retargeting is never enabled by default and never runs on bots, previews, ordinary goto.now links, or the consent screen itself.
  • GoTo.now does not offer iframe link cloaking, arbitrary injected scripts, raw-IP reports, or a vague encrypted-links switch.
  • The destination hostname and Continue now link remain visible; the destination is never framed or disguised.

Advertising & Retargeting FAQs

What happens when a visitor declines?
No Meta or AdRoll tag loads. If the link also has a contextual sponsored message, it can still appear without third-party tracking; otherwise the visitor is redirected immediately.
Can a link owner append a parameter that accepts consent automatically?
No. Consent is submitted through a CSRF-protected visitor action and is stored as a versioned choice on the branded domain.
Can I paste an ad network's JavaScript?
No. The configuration accepts only validated provider IDs and plain-text creative. This keeps the redirect path auditable and prevents arbitrary script injection.
