Humans vs bots in your numbers
Every link preview, social platform crawler and search engine hits your links - Sometimes a lot. We detect that automated traffic and count it separately, so your dashboard shows human visits and bots & crawlers side by side.
Where all those bots come from
Automated hits are a normal part of the web, not an attack. The usual visitors:
- Link preview generators - When someone pastes your link in a chat app or social post, the platform fetches it to build the preview card.
- Search engine crawlers - Indexing bots follow links wherever they're published.
- Security scanners - Some email systems open every link in a message to check it's safe before the recipient sees it.
The burst right after you post
A brand-new link shared on social often shows a burst of bot hits within seconds (that's the platforms generating previews) - Completely normal. If you share to five platforms at once, expect five little bot spikes before a single human has clicked. Don't read it as fake traffic; read it as your link being distributed.
Judge campaigns on the human count
When you're judging a campaign, use the human number. Bot counts tell you your link is circulating; human counts tell you people actually cared. Comparing two posts by their human clicks is fair. Comparing raw totals isn't, because one platform's preview system may simply be noisier than another's. Splitting the two is exactly why the dashboard shows them side by side instead of one blended total.
