Guest limits and rate limiting
To keep the platform fast and abuse-free, guests (not signed in) can create 5 links per minute. If you hit the ceiling you'll see a friendly message - Wait a minute or create a free account, which raises limits to comfortable everyday levels.
Why there's a ceiling at all
Rate limits exist for one reason: spammers script link creation, and unchecked scripts slow the service down for everyone else. A per-minute cap barely touches real people - Most humans make one or two links at a time - While making bulk abuse impractical. It's the quiet reason goto.now stays quick.
If you hit the limit while working
You're probably batch-creating links for a project. Two easy outs: sign in (the free account limit covers normal batch work comfortably), or space your creations out over a couple of minutes. The message clears on its own - Nothing gets blocked permanently, and no link you already made is affected.
Your audience is never throttled
Clicks and scans are never rate-limited, for anyone - Your audience always gets through. Only creating links is paced. So a link going viral is never a problem:
- A post that suddenly gets 10,000 clicks an hour? All counted, all redirected.
- A QR code scanned by a whole stadium at once? Every scan works.
Automating hundreds or thousands of links? That's what the API is for; keys come with limits sized to your use case. Tell us your expected volume when you request a key and the ceiling will fit the job from day one.
