Managing links

Set up smart link routing

Smart routing lets one existing goto.now URL choose a different destination for a visitor's country or device, run an A/B destination test, expire to a fallback, require a password, and control its social preview. The public short URL and its QR code do not change.

Enable smart routing

  1. Sign in and open Dashboard → Links.
  2. Select the signpost icon beside the link you want to configure.
  3. Confirm the default destination. This is the safe destination used when no specific rule matches.
  4. Add only the optional rules the campaign needs, then select Enable smart routing.

The rule screen shows a live confirmation and begins aggregating human visits by the rule that won.

Understand rule order

Rules run in a fixed order so the result is predictable:

  1. Expiration: after the UTC deadline, every visit goes to the fallback.
  2. Password: before expiry, a protected link asks for its password without revealing the destination.
  3. Country: a matching two-letter ISO code wins when the trusted edge provides one.
  4. Device: iOS, Android, other mobile, or desktop destinations apply next.
  5. A/B destination: remaining visitors receive one of two to five destinations with a stable assignment.
  6. Default: everyone else reaches the default destination.

Because device rules come before the experiment, leave device fields blank when you want all devices in the same A/B test. Country rules use one CODE=https://destination line, such as SG=https://example.com/sg.

Protect and finish a campaign safely

A link password must contain at least eight characters. Passwords are stored as hashes, attempts are rate-limited, and a successful browser receives one hour of access. The password form never displays the destination.

Expiration needs a fallback URL. Use an evergreen product page, waitlist, event recap, or current offer rather than leaving visitors at an error. Times are interpreted as UTC.

Custom social preview fields set the Open Graph and X/Twitter title, description, and image returned to supported social crawlers. Use an HTTPS image sized for social sharing and avoid putting confidential details in preview text.

Edit or disable it later

Editing the link's normal destination updates its smart default without turning routing off. To remove all rules, return to Smart routing and select Disable smart routing. GoTo.now restores a direct redirect to the default first, then disables the routing layer; the short URL and every QR code remain unchanged.
